The 61B has finally arrived in Regent Square.
Not the Port Authority bus line that runs along the main Braddock Avenue business district of Regent Square, but the new coffee shop named after it.
The sister of 61C Cafe in Squirrel Hill (also named for a bus route), 61B Cafe opened Wednesday in the spot occupied for years by Katerbean, which closed at the end of November.
Although 61C owners Gary Kaboly and Kate Knorr had hoped to open its new shop earlier this year, it took longer to complete the extensive remodeling and improvements.
The new spot at 1108 S. Braddock Ave. — in the Swissvale part of Regent Square — has its front door open onto the street rather than on a side hallway like Katerbean. It also has two large roll-up windows that open to the street in mild weather.
61B Cafe offers a wider array of home-made goodies than Katerbean did. Patrons were greeted by a pastry case offering triple chocolate mousse cake, devil’s food cake and rustic apple pie, as well as glass jars of granola, cookies and other treats, smoothies and large selection of teas. And, of course, all types of coffee.
Hours, at least on weekdays, will be 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
