Steel City Brewhouse opens ... in Florida

Written by Bob Batz Jr. on

The Steel City Brewhouse is holding its grand opening this evening -- not in Pittsburgh, but rather, St. Petersburg, Fla.

The tagline, as you can see, is, "Bringing a little of the Burgh, to the Burg!"

The owner is a former Pittsburgher and McKeesport native Lynn Marasco, along with her mother and brother. They're not calling the place a Steelers bar, but ...

"We are an everybody BAR that serves OUR family’s homemade favorites,” Ms. Marasco says in a news release in a quote that shows you can take the woman out of Pittsburgh, but not the Pittsburghese out of the woman. “We welcome any fan of any team as we are a team here with many different home towns. ... Being from Pittsburgh, however, majority might rule. Just sayin’ to ‘yinz.’ ”

The Pixsburgh flavor includes draft beers from Rivertowne and Full Pint and menu items such as pierogies and the Steel City Samich (topped with fries and slaw and even a fried egg if you like).

Visitors from Pittsburgh and beyond can find the place at 10400 Roosevelt Blvd. North, at (where the "Our Beginnings" page has some cool family photos, including of Ms. Marasco's bar-owning great-aunt Marie) and on Facebook
