Justin Severino for F&W People's Best New Chef

Written by Melissa McCart on

originalThis week through March 31, Food & Wine has opened voting for "The People's Best New Chefs" for 10 regions around the country. Justin Severino of Cure in Lawrenceville has been nominated for the Mid-Atlantic category.

He's up against other heavy-hitters such as Mike Friedman of Washington, D.C.'s, Red Hen and Kevin Sbraga of Spraga and The Fat Ham in Philadelphia.

Pennsylvania nominations from past years include a 2008 nod to Jim Burke of James; a 1999 nomination for Mark Vetri of Amis, Vetri and Osteria, among others; a 1998 nomination for Guillermo Pernot of Cuba Libre (then Cafe Casanova and The Rittenhouse Hotel); Jack McDavid of Jack's Firehouse in 1991; and Suzanna Foo of Suzanna Foo Chinese Kitchen in 1989.

It's been a big year for Mr. Severino, as he also earned a nod in the semi-finals for "Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic" for this year's James Beard awards.

And on June 12, Mr. Severino will join Derek Stevens of Eleven in the Strip District, Tim Fetter of Eat'N Park Hospitality Group and Keith Coughenour of The Duquesne Club as a culinary host at "Of Garden to Table: A Tribute to Thomas Keller," at Downtown's Duquesne Club. Tickets for the fundraiser start at $350.

Food & Wine voting continues through Monday. Click here to cast a ballot.
