Toss't to open Downtown this month

Written by Melissa McCart on

tosstJulian Vallozzi of Vallozzi's Downtown said he plans to open Toss't, a salad, wrap and Greek yogurt shop in the space next door to his restaurant, by the end of July.

Today he'll wrap up construction. Staff trains next week and the shop will open shortly after training, with starting hours from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The salad-focused restaurant will open in the former Mattiniero space, tosst2which had featured coffee and sandwiches since last spring.

Mr. Vallozzi said he has been paying attention to the growth of salad concepts in Washington, D.C., and New York specifically and decided to offer it here.

"Pittsburgh doesn't have anything like this Downtown," he said.

Among local purveyors providing his produce is Snow Country Farms in Belsano, with which he has a partnership for growing bibb lettuce, arugula and other greens.

Vallozzi's in Greensburg has been an institution since Helen and Ernie opened the restaurant 35 years ago.
