Notion soft opens in East Liberty

Written by Melissa McCart on

Chef-owner David Racicot staged his first service last night at the soft opening of his restaurant, Notion, at 128 S. Highland Ave., in a brightly lit, formal dining room that seats 28.

Construction delays pushed an anticipated January opening to this month, said Mr. Racicot, who will officially open in the next couple of weeks.

Notion will offer donation-only previews tonight through this Thursday, March 7, featuring the menu chronicled after the jump. A few seats are available for Wednesday and Thursday night service.

notion1The soft-open will continue next week, Monday through Thursday, during which Mr. Racicot will offer an alternate tasting menu.

Dishes served during these two weeks will comprise many of those on the tasting and a la carte menus when the restaurant officially opens.

This week's four-course tasting menu offers the following choices. First: Tartare with Korean flavors, peanuts and iceberg lettuce wraps (pictured) or shrimp risotto with herbs and Manchego custard.

Second: Oysters (pictured) with cucumber, sorrel and horseradish cream or turbot with shellfish sauce, daikon radish, almond and chamomile.

Third: Beef filet (pictured), onions, truffle essence, arugula and flowers or chicken with lacinato kale, mushroom, Japanese yam and apple.

notion2Fourth: Milk chocolate Nutella cake, banana, orange and dehydrated chocolate or yogurt, maple, calamansi lemons and freeze-dried fruits.
