This week's food and flavor: winter greens, Oscar fare

In Weekend Magazine, I observe that Pittsburghers don't tire of soup. So I learned at this year's South Side Soup Contest, where Stephen Felder of Stagioni made Le Virtu, a stunning 49-ingredient soup that took him a week to make.

You can also learn about The Brew Gentlemen's Braddock space and Harvard & Highland's tasting menu.

In Food & Flavor, Rebecca Sodergren reports that kale is a French novelty. Speaking of winter greens, remember farmers markets? Pine for produce as you read.

School lunches are more satiating than they used to be. See what's being served to kids Monday night. Details here.

Cook up some snacks for the Oscars. Or for after-hours food and drink cravings, head over to Spoon for the new late-night menu, Thursdays through Saturdays from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. and have a glass of wine from sommelier John Wabeck.

If you're not sipping as you read, this will stir your morning coffee craving.
