Big East brunch

If you've ever wondered what the inside of the University of Pittsburgh's University Club in Oakland looks like (hint: it's pretty fabulous), here's your chance.

On Sat., Jan. 19, and then again on Jan. 26. and Feb. 2, the private club will hold a public brunch prior to Pittsburgh Panthers basketball games at the Peterson Events Center

They're promoting it as the club's "Big East Brunch at the UClub" because this is the last year Pitt will be part of the Big East Conference, and these late January/early February games against Connecticut, DePaul and Syracuse  "are in the heart of the conference schedule," says Cory Hart, the club's marketing and membership manager.

The menu includes all the traditional brunch offerings: Eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, breakfast breads and pastries, and quiche. There also will be a chef-attended omelet station, and brunch-goers also can fill up on eggs Benedict du jour -- this weekend, it's Norwegian-style, with shaved roast beef, poached egg and onions standing in for the Canadian bacon.

To wash it all down, the meal also includes a Bloody Mary bar and Kir Bar, with Combier's all-natural fruit liquors, plus still and sparkling wine.

Cost is $17.95 for adults, or $13.95 for University Club members. Kids ages 12 and under are charged $8.95. It runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 19 and Feb. 2, and from 1 to 5 p.m. Jan. 26.

Reservations are not required but they are recommended -- the club was at full capacity for its first event on Jan. 12, said Mr. Hart.
