A New Zealand-themed beer dinner

Steve Sloan and his New Zealand-born wife, Dyana, who run the new Roundabout Brewery in Lawrenceville, will do the beer part while the Hartwood Restaurant in Indiana Township does the dinner part for a different kind of beer dinner at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

The menu is New Zealand-inspired:
 
First course: Roasted Pumpkin Ravioli with Rocket, Toasted Pumpkin Seeds, Spiced Pumpkin Oil and New Zealand Windsor Blue Cheese.    
      
Paired with: Hy-PA, a hybrid between a pale ale and an IPA with all the hop-forward flavor of an IPA and the body and pleasant bitterness of a pale ale.  
 
Second course: Lamb Carpaccio with Sweet Potato Salad, Crisp Sweet Potatoes and Cranberry Gastrique. 
   
Paired with: Trompe le Monde, a highly-drinkable spiced Belgian golden ale, despite its 8 percent alcohol by volume. Flavors of coriander and citrus along with clove from the yeast and a touch of sweetness from the use of local honey.
 
Third course: Beef Short Rib Ragout with Toasted Barley Risotto, Crisp Veal Shortbreads and Caramelized Fennel.

Paired with: Ferdl Weiss, an amber weissbier with typical flavors of clove and banana, along with caramel and chocolate notes from the malts.
 
Fourth course: Harvest Chocolate Pavlova with Whipped Cream and Candied Pistachios.
 
Paired with: Jacked Up O'Lantern, a robust stout infused with coffee and pumpkin-pie spices.
